ERASMUS ON MADEIRA :)

By writing it I want to ensure you that taking Part in Erasmus Program is the best idea for you. So, I want to thank everybody who gave my a boost to go because for me it was the best decision I could make.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT MADEIRA

It Is a Portuguese island which is situated in the North Atlantic Ocean. The capital of Madeira is Funchal.

It's a popular tourist resort (annually one million tourists come there, being three times it’s population).

Madeira is well known for their wine, rum, food, historical heritage, flora and fauna and landscape.

The average temperature at Funchal is from 18 to 24 Celsius.

ACOMODATION & UNIVERSITY

If You are worried about the accommodation, You can book a room at a dormitory situated in the old town in Funchal, barely one minute from the ocean.

All of us would go to university by bus. The way back we would usually go on foot.

The teachers enjoy when the Erasmus student choose their course and prepare special materials in English offering their support in passing the exam.

FREE TIME

LEVADA

On Madeira there are more than 1,350 miles of Levadas. You can choose how long distance You want to make and how difficult it should be.

GARDENS

There are a few gardens which are worth seeing, The most popular being the Tropical Garden. There is a collection of plants from all over the world.

PORTO SANTO

We went by ferry to another island -Porto Santo which is smaller than Madeira. We spent two lovely days there. The first day we made levadas, and on the second day we were snorkeling and strolling along a long sandy beach.

SURFING

To be on the island and not try surfing? It can't be! I do recommend Calhau Surf School. They pick You up, provide with a wetsuit, pay for You the insurance and what is Best... they Take photos. The instructors make You feel at ease, develop your skills and at the same time and make sure You feel safe. They are not random persons who teach you as They are all profs. The number of instructors depends on the number of "surfers". You will spend all day having fun. So try it and join to surfers.

NIGHTLIFE

ESN- a group of people who make sure You feel at home and Take care of Erasmus students daily

At the beginning they prepared for us "Welcome week" which lasted for 2 weeks. We had wine tasting, international dinner, catamaran trip, a visit to CORAL beer factory and more.

AT THE END…

Erasmus gives you an opportunity to meet new people, try new things, gain new knowledge, experience and more. Not without reason it is said that travelling broadens your mind. I hope that it will help you to make a good decision.
